What is it that draws you to come to church every week? Do you come to be “wowed” by some preacher? What do you want to hear? Many churches have struggled with keeping people interested in attending both services. They have had a difficult time keeping young people involved. Attempts have been made to make worship more entertaining, but that will always be a losing proposition. We do not come to Sunday worship to be entertained.

The real, authentic and everlasting drawing card that separates true and false worship is the gospel. We need to be “wowed” and awed by the gospel. Those who are committed to the Christian faith believe a message regarding the work of Christ. The greatest desire and prayer of parents is that their children will believe the gospel of Jesus. The message we want people in the community to embrace is the gospel of Jesus, the Saviour, and that His coming into the world was necessary to grant forgiveness of our sins.

The gospel changes everything! The message proclaimed shakes us out of our complacency and turns our attention to the Lord Jesus! The gospel brought about a major change in the life of the apostle Paul. When confronted with it the apostle was changed from enemy of the cross to servant of Christ. He is called by God to preach the gospel of God. In the opening verse of his letter to the Romans the apostle speaks very positively about how he was set apart for the gospel. The Lord Jesus separated him for the purpose of spreading glad tidings. Paul has fallen in love with the gospel and is “wowed” by its message and power. He is not ashamed to speak about it. He writes in verse 16, “For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes.”

We are called Christians, an identity we can only claim because of the gospel. What does that gospel mean to us? Does it bring about major changes into our life, as it did to Paul? Are we “wowed” by the power of the gospel? Let us be known as those who have the gospel in our hearts and a heart for the gospel.
