2011 Timothy Conference

The Committee on Christian Education is holding the 2011 Timothy Conference for young men who might consider serving their Savior as a minister of the gospel in the Orthodox Presbyterian Church. The conference, which will be held March 23-26, 2011 in Philadelphia, is open to young men between the ages of 16 and 22 who have been nominated by their sessions.

If you have a young man in mind, please suggest his name to your session. The elders, in turn, will consider your suggestion and make their recommendations to the CCE's Subcommittee on Ministerial Training by the January 15, 2011 deadline.

The conference seeks to challenge the young men to consider whether the Lord is calling them to the gospel ministry. This is in keeping with Paul's exhortation to Timothy: "What you have heard from me in the presence of many witnesses entrust to faithful men who will be able to teach others also" (1 Tim. 2:2).

Conference speakers include:

  • The Rev. Douglas Clawson on "The Office of the Minister"
  • The Rev. Ross Graham on "The Call to the Ministry"
  • The Rev. Dr. David VanDrunen on "Seminary Education: What and Why"
  • The Rev. Paul Browne on "Preparing for the Ministry Now"
  • The Rev. Danny Olinger on "The Process Toward Ordination"

The conference, including food and transportation, is free for attendees. The young men should plan to fly into Philadelphia on Wednesday evening, March 23, and return home on Saturday morning, March 26.

During the conference, the men will sit in on some classes at Westminster Theological Seminary and receive a Presbyterian history tour of Philadelphia by Dr. D. G. Hart.

Session nominations and applications may be sent to Danny E. Olinger, CCE general secretary, at Olinger.1@opc.org. Applications may be downloaded from this link.
