For A Testmony

2021

On March 29, 1966, OPC missionary Bruce Hunt finished For a Testimony, the account of his 1941 imprisonment by the Japanese forces occupying Manchuria. Hunt had resisted the Japanese government's attempt to force emperor-worship on the Korean-speaking Christians among whom he labored. Hunt's reason for writing the book was not to claim that he had done anything unusual in taking a stand for Christ, as if he were especially brave or daring. He said, "I wrote it and now send it forth as the partial keeping of a prayer-vow made during my confinement: "Bring my soul out of prison, that I may give thanks unto Thy name" (Psalm 142:7).

After reading the book, E.J. Young spoke for many when he said, "Hunt's love for Christ shines forth on every page. This is not an ordinary book but here is the fascinating account of one who, even in severe trial, was faithful to his Lord. It is a book that all Christians should read, and if non-Christians would read it, they might come to understand the secret of such a life."
