May 13 Today in OPC History

Novato, California

2022

On May 13, 1971, Trinity Church, Orthodox Presbyterian, in Novato, California, was organized as a particular congregation by the Presbytery of Northern California. The Rev. Robert Graham was installed as the organizing pastor and Mr. Bob Williams and Mr. Jerry Cantwell were ordained and installed as ruling elders. Eleven other members were also enrolled.

Less than a year later, both Mr. Williams and Mr. Cantwell had job changes, and the congregation had to look to nearby Covenant OPC, Berkeley for help. Covenant Church appointed ruling elders Gus Espino and David Neilands to serve with Mr. Graham on a temporary session. In 1973, Mr. Graham resigned, but a year later, the Rev. Richard Miller accepted a call to serve as Trinity Church's pastor. Mr. Miller would serve for thirty-two years until his retirement in 2006. In 2008, Mr. Reid Hankins was ordained and installed as pastor of Trinity Church. Mr. Hankins continues to serve to the present day.
