February 27 Today in OPC History

Douglas A. Watson

On February 27, 1955, nine young people were publicly received into the communicant membership of Eastlake OPC, Wilmington, DE. One of these was Douglas Andrew Watson, the first member of the fourth generation of the Watson family to become a communicant member at Eastlake Church. His great grand-parents, James and Maggie, were charter members of the church when it was organized in 1896. His grandfather, John, served as an elder of the church, and his father, Harry, served as a trustee.

Ordained to the gospel ministry in the OPC in 1978, Doug pastored Covenant OPC, Seaford, DE, Calvary OPC, Ringoes, NJ, and Living Hope OPC, Bloomfield, NJ. He also served as moderator of the Sixty-Second (1995) General Assembly in Beaver Falls, PA, and from 2000-2014 as the first OPC staff accountant for the Committee on Coordination.

In 1963, Doug married Betty Wallace. Doug and Betty (who was from the Franklin Square OPC) first met as campers at the French Creek Bible Conference. Sixty-one years later, Doug and Betty now live in the Quarryville Presbyterian Retirement Community.
