The Presbytery of California held its spring meeting on April 12, 1944 at Covenant OPC, Berkeley. The Rev. Glenn Coie was elected moderator, and the Rev. Robert Graham was re-elected as clerk. The major item of business was receiving the Rev. Bruce Hunt and the Rev. Lawrence Eyres from the Presbyteries of Philadelphia and of New York and New England. Mr. Hunt and Mr. Eyres were examined in theology on the floor of the Presbytery before being enrolled into membership.
Mr. Coie reported on the work of the Committee on Evangelism and gave an encouraging account of activity and interest in Orthodox Presbyterian congregations in San Diego and San Pedro, California. The Presbytery also talked about the potential for a work in the Tacoma-Seattle area. The Presbytery received a petition signed by twelve adults requesting the formation of an Orthodox Presbyterian Church in Portland, Oregon. A special committee was erected to examine and help the petitioners, and to report back to the presbytery.
