On August 7, 1949, Ned B. Stonehouse arrived in Amsterdam to represent the OPC at the second Reformed Ecumenical Synod meeting there from August 9–19. This was the first RES to which the OPC sent a delegate to participate in the meetings. Stonehouse would join delegates from thirteen other Reformed denominations around the world. Administrative business at the meeting included discussing the rules and standing orders. Theologically, the Synod debated the subjects of Christian education, eschatology, creation and evolution, and the relation of church and state.
The OPC would participate in the RES until its withdrawal in 1988.
