Richard Nelson

 

The Rev. Richard A. ("Rick") Nelson was born on this day in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. After growing up in Sharon OPC in Hialeah, Florida, he attended Gordon College in Wenham, Massachusetts. There he met Jean Singley, whom he married in 1969.Two years later Rick graduated from Westminster Theological Seminary, where he was known for his wit and the bright ties his dad made for him to sell.

He ministered at the OPC in Caney, Kansas from 1971 to 1976. After a short pastorate at Dayspring OPC in Manassas, Virginia, he went on to serve Grace OPC in Trenton, New Jersey for 32 years. During those years he was very active in the ministry of French Creek Bible Conference, serving as a teacher, a dean, and a member and officer of the board. Rick was always an active churchman. He served the Dakotas and New Jersey presbyteries in various capacities, and was a frequent commissioner to General Assemblies.

Rick and Jean would be blessed with three children, Jeremy, Bethany, and Abigail, and 11 grandchildren.

Rick went to be with the Lord in glory on January 7, 2017, at the age of 70.
