OPC Students at Calvin College

 

On this date in 1957, the OPC was well-represented among the student body at Calvin College in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Enrolled in classes were numerous sons and daughters of OPC pastors and missionaries including Connie Hunt, Bernard "Chip" Stonehouse, Donald and Dorothy Duff, Richard, Jr. and Harold Gaffin, Jean Young, Uel Wade, Fern Emma Stanton, Don Coray, Donald Clelland, Joan and Judy Grotenhuis, Ruth Male, Lois and Cecelia Hoekeboer, John Adair, John and Mary Magee, and Gwen Cummings. Other OPC students included Peter Steen, Michael Stingley, John Ramsey, Richard Nagle, Bill Brown, Ivan and Rich DeMaster, David Armour, Eleanor Roberts and Grace Vruiwink.

Many students often would gather at the home of French and English teacher Winifred Holkeboer whose late husband Oscar had been pastor of First Orthodox Presbyterian Church in WaterIoo, Iowa and Bethel OPC, Oostburg, Wisconsin.
