Robert Letham

 

Robert Letham was born on this day in Stanmore, Middlesex, England. After studies at the Exeter and Nottingham universities, He earned MAR and ThM degrees from Westminster Seminary in Philadelphia, and then he returned to the UK for a PhD at the University of Aberdeen in 1979, writing his dissertation on “Saving Faith and Assurance in Reformed Theology: Zwingli to the Synod of Dort.”

Ordained by the Presbytery of New Jersey in 1981, Letham pastored Emmanuel OPC in Whippany, New Jersey for five years while lecturing in Systematic Theology at Westminster. After a three-year post at London Bible College, he pastored Emmanuel OPC in Wilmington, Delaware, 1989-2006 while serving as adjunct professor at Westminster and visiting professor at Reformed Theological Seminary in Washington, DC. In 2008 Letham was dismissed to the Evangelical Presbyterian Church of England and Wales. He now serves as Professor of Systematics and Historical Theology at Union School of Theology. A prolific writer, among his latest publications is Systematic Theology (Crossway, 2019).
