Henry Fikkert

2023

On March 31, 1991, the Rev. Henry Fikkert retired as pastor of Calvary OPC, Cedar Grove, Wisconsin after 25 years of service. Mr. Fikkert was born in Brooklyn, New York in 1926.

In 1948, he married Doris Guldenschuh and entered Sterling College in Sterling, Kansas. After graduating from Sterling College (BA, 1951) and Westminster Seminary (BD 1955), he was ordained by the Presbytery of Philadelphia and installed as pastor of Community OPC in Center Square, Pennsylvania, in 1956. In 1962 he was called to serve Faith Presbyterian Church (unaffiliated), Fawn Grove, Pennsylvania, which he led into the OPC in 1964. In 1966, he accepted the call to pastor Calvary Church.

On November 18, 2004, Fikkert entered into glory. Tributes to his pastoral care were published in New Horizons after his passing. OPC pastor Bill Snodgrass recalled Fikkert’s persistent challenge to him when as a young man Snodgrass was undergoing a time of wandering from the faith. Snodgrass testified that Fikkert's words and pastoral advice were “used by the Spirit of God to recall me from the ravages of sin. What greater testimony to his pastoral heart and the steadfast faithfulness of the Lord administered through Pastor Fikkert’s work on this earth could there be?”
