Home Missions Today
April 6, 2005
This is Richard Gerber reporting the April 6, 2005 edition of Home Missions Today. God is using your prayers to develop the ministries of Orthodox Presbyterian mission works across North America.
PRESBYTERY OF SOUTHERN CALIFORNIARegional home missionary Don Poundstone is working to help plant new churches in the Regional Church of Southern California. Pray for participants in a Sunday evening Bible study Don leads in the Mira Mesa area of San Diego and for Covenant OPC, a mostly Korean mission work nearby. An English-language worship service led by Pastor Yong Kim at Covenant may soon facilitate the union of these groups. Pray for the pastor, elders, and people of Iglesia Nueva Vida, a Spanish-speaking fellowship in Phoenix that wants to be recognized by the Presbytery as a mission work. Presbytery's Vietnamese mission work, Resurrection OPC in Westminster, Calif., is actively seeking a Vietnamese pastor to serve the congregation and community. Pray that God would provide for all the needs of these and the several other mission works in Southern California.
MANISTEE, MICHIGANPastor Ken Hovingh and the congregation of Providence Presbyterian Church in Manistee, Michigan, continue to trust the Lord for His blessing according to His promises in His Word. They have had a few visitors, but none have chosen to become regular attenders at this time. The congregation continues to faithfully attend worship twice on Sunday, and a good number attend the Thursday discipleship training and Bible study in the Gospel of Mark. The Lord has abundantly cared for the mission work's financial needs, even enabling her to send gifts for hurricane and Tsunami assistance. The congregation is working to develop a greater awareness of global ministry in missions. This has become a major part of their prayer time during the Sunday evening worship service. The church family continues to minister faithfully to one another as needs arise. This is producing growth in unity among the members for which they praise the Lord.
CHARLOTTE, NORTH CAROLINAThe Lord has been very gracious to Redeemer Presbyterian Church. She is blessed to be located in a place with a large population and her attendance continues to rise at a gentle pace. Members have been added, and more will be added in the coming weeks. Other people have asked to meet with the session concerning membership. Two more deacons were recently elected. The labors of teacher Dr. George Knight have been warmly received; and the church's ministry in nursing homes remains faithful and a blessing to those ministering and those being ministered to. Additionally, plans for a short-term mission trip to Uganda are continuing to move ahead well. As Redeemer approaches her second anniversary, she is still blessed by a high degree of affection and unity. Please pray for those in the congregation who are unemployed and for one in particular who has cancer and yet continues to care for her own mother and others. The congregation continues to long for an affordable church property. Yet, with her pastor Cliff Blair, she trusts the Lord to order her steps and build His church. Redeemer awaits His purposes even as she labors in His name. Praise Him with them.
PRESBYTERY OF THE MIDWEST & MICHIGAN AND ONTARIORegional home missionary Jim Bosgraf asks us to pray for the new work in St. Paul, Minnesota, and De Kalb, Illinois, as they make contacts for outreach and ministry. Pray, too, for the possible new work in Bay City, Michigan. Pray for the Chicago Spanish speaking work as candidates continue to be interviewed. Lastly, pray for the congregation in Roberts, Wisconsin, which is in the process of joining the OPC.
