Home Missions Today
April 20, 2005
This is Richard Gerber reporting the April 20, 2005 edition of Home Missions Today. God is using your prayers to develop the ministries of Orthodox Presbyterian mission works across North America.
NEON, KENTUCKYCovenant Reformed Presbyterian Church (OPC) is excited about the possibility of having a new building in which to worship. A blueprint for the floor plan has been approved, and volunteer groups are expected to work on construction of the sanctuary over the summer. Pastor John Belden is preparing to begin leadership/officer training for the men in the church. He is also meeting weekly with the church's one member who grew up in the area. They are studying the effects of revivalism on the religion of Appalachia. The goal of the study is to enable Tony to better understand the theological problems in his own background. Praise the Lord that a man, who used to attend worship regularly and then stopped coming, has returned. Covenant Church is encouraged that God has answered their prayers for him.
DALLAS, (Northeast), TEXASFaith Presbyterian Church and her pastor Chad Bond rejoice in the ways God has shown his favor to the congregation. Three adults and three children were recently received into the membership of Faith Church. Several families continue to attend regularly, and some of them are attending a membership class. Another wave of mass mailings went out to the community in February. Fifteen people are attending neighborhood Bible studies being held every Wednesday and Sunday evening in the homes of ruling elders. A men's breakfast meets once a month for prayer and fellowship. Please pray that the Lord would richly bless these efforts by causing Faith Church to grow in the grace and knowledge of Christ, in greater love of him and one another, and in effectiveness as salt and light in the local community.
CHARLOTTESVILLE, VIRGINIAProvidence Presbyterian Church rejoices in the mercy of God who cares for his people. Despite severe concerns about the church's budget in 2004, the year ended with a surplus. Again this year offerings are exceeding expenses, and Providence Church is rejoicing in God' s provision. It appears that few people in town know who Providence Church is and what she stands for. Please join her in praying that her outreach would bear fruit in visitors at worship. Praise God for the recent birth and baptism of Liam Ray Monaghan, the fourth child of Pastor Tony Monaghan and his wife Dayna. Praise God also for the warmth of the fellowship, and the unity of the congregation.
MORENO VALLEY, CALIFORNIASovereign Grace OPC continues to move forward by the grace and mercy of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. The Lord continues to send a faithful stream of visitors and "snowbirds" from Canada. This spring an elder and his wife from a sister OP church were received into membership and have given themselves fully to the service of the church. Please keep praying for visitors and for the church's follow-up with them. Pastor Bob Herrmann reports that this year has also brought Sovereign Grace Church sadness as a number of marriages in the congregation are having extremely difficult times. Pray for the session as it continues to work with the couples, seeking reconciliation and stability. The church is using the outreach material of "Community Houses of Prayer" to further her outreach ministry and to involve more of the members in evangelism. The church's website, which has been her most effective outreach tool, is being renovated and updated. Lastly, it has been a year since the pastor's cancer surgery. Give thanks that his blood tests for cancer continue to come back "negative."
