Home Missions Today
May 4, 2005
This is Ross Graham reporting the May 4, 2005 edition of Home Missions Today. God is using your prayers to develop the ministries of Orthodox Presbyterian mission works across North America.
SHEDDEN, ONTARIOGrace OPC is looking forward to summer ministry opportunities. On June 10-11, they will set up a table in the front of the church offering free rhubarb drinks during the Rosy Rhubarb Days celebrated in Shedden. They hope to have opportunity to say "hi" to many people and to invite them to the church. They pray God might use this effort to give the church many new contacts. The congregation has also begun preparations for VBS that will be held August 1-5. Pastor Dale Collison is very thankful for God's provision of a good doctor. His eyes continue to be an issue, but they are not bad enough for an operation. Dale's wife Jan was diagnosed with diabetes shortly after they came to Canada, but she is doing well now. The pastor is getting out into the community more and more and meeting the people of Shedden. The congregation rejoices at the recent addition to the church of a new covenant child.
HUDSONVILLE, MICHIGANCedar Church (OPC) in Hudsonville, Michigan, and its pastor Steve Igo, rejoice that soon they hope to become a separate and particular congregation of the Presbytery of Michigan and Ontario. At a recent congregational meeting, the members voted to elect three ruling elders, to call an associate pastor, and to call Steve as their pastor. Next month, the church will organize a charter roll and send a petition to the presbytery to be organized. During the summer months, Cedar will be very busy in community outreach. In June, they hope to host their annual Backyard Bible Club ministries with the goal of reaching 100 community children. They are also organizing a summer mission trip to McDowell County, West Virginia, for 37 students and adults from Cedar's congregation and other OP churches in the presbytery. In August, the congregation will host the regular booth/book table at the Hudsonville Community Fair that is attended by nearly 80,000 visitors. Please pray that God will bless these efforts to reach the community for Jesus Christ.
HUNTSVILLE, ALABAMAProvidence Presbyterian Church and Pastor Mark Winder rejoice in the reception of a new family into membership, and the baptism of their covenant child. This has been a great encouragement to the congregation, particularly as two other visiting families have decided to attend elsewhere. Please pray for Providence as they continue to reach out into the community, pass out several hundred door hangers each month, and begin to advertise. Pray also that the Lord will bless the ministry of Gary Davenport, the regional home missionary for the Presbytery of the Southwest, as he leads a Bible Conference at Providence on May 13-15.
PRESBYTERY OF OHIO regional home missionary Larry Oldaker asks us to pray for Trinity OPC in Huntington, West Virginia, as Boon and Ann Leigh make preparation to move to the field there in June, when he will begin to serve as an intern of Grace OPC in Columbus, Ohio. Boon will begin outreach efforts in Huntington and prepare for licensure in the presbytery. Larry also asks us to pray for God's leading and blessing on other outreach Bible studies being held in Ohio and Pennsylvania.
