Home Missions Today
May 18, 2005
This is Richard Gerber reporting the May 18, 2005 edition of Home Missions Today. God is using your prayers to develop the ministries of Orthodox Presbyterian mission works across North America.
OVIEDO, FLORIDAEric Watkins reports God has been very good to Reformation OPC. They are seeing several new families attending worship, and giving has been strong. Praise God that there is also continued spiritual growth in the congregation. Pray that God would raise up both elders and deacons to serve Reformation OPC. Officer training is underway. Pray, too, that the Lord would provide a facility that would be more adequate for accomplishing her Christian education and fellowship goals.
PRESBYTERY OF PHILADELPHIAThe Presbytery of Philadelphia, at its meeting on May 7, approved the organization of Redeemer OPC in Carlisle, Pennsylvania. The organization service is to be held on May 27. A deacon and two elders will be installed. Rev. John Mallin was designated ministerial advisor and regular supply. A pastor is being sought. Also, please pray for Yardley Presbyterian Church, a mission work of Presbytery in Yardley, Pennsylvania. Vigorous efforts are being made to find a full-time organizing pastor. Pray for God's blessing on new works that are envisioned in Danville, Chambersburg, and Chadds Ford, Pennsylvania, with the possibility of receiving a new church from independency in Mifflinburg. Regional home missionary Thomas E. Tyson plans to retire from installed ministerial service on June 30. Praise the Lord for his long and faithful service to his King and to the church.
KEY WEST, FLORIDAThe congregation of Keys Chapel recently lost a long-time friend and member when Betty Strike was taken home to be with the Lord. She taught Sunday school for many years and was confined to a wheel chair for several years since Hurricane Hugo ravaged the Strike's home. The funeral afforded Pastor Bill Welzien an excellent opportunity to present Christ to friends, neighbors, and family. Pray for newly installed ruling elder Greg Rowe in his many duties and responsibilities with the church and with the evangelistic preaching ministry in Key West.
BELLMAWR, NEW JERSEYPlease pray for the Hispanic Ministry Conference to be held at Immanuel Church in Bellmawr, New Jersey, May 24-26. This is the first gathering of its kind for the OPC. Organized under the leadership of Ben Alvira and Steve Larson, eighteen men from across the U.S. and Puerto Rico will be gathering for the purpose of getting to know each other, exchanging information on available resources in the Spanish language, and considering the church planting philosophy and methodology of the OPC. Please ask the Lord to grant safe travel and a fruitful exchange of ideas.
