January 11 Today in OPC History

Debbie Vandenburg

2022

On January 11, 1986, Debbie Vandenburg, a member of Immanuel OPC, Thornton, Colorado, appeared on a Denver television station. She had appeared two previous times on the station talking about her Christian faith and her battle with cancer. In this interview she testified, "I would like to be healed. I know that God can heal me. If it is not his will, then I know that he has something better for me."

Debbie's love of the Lord and the members at Immanuel Church was well known. She passed out fliers for Bible school, prepared baked goods for church activities, and played the piano or organ for worship services.

Debbie would join the church triumphant two weeks later on January 25 at the age of 29. On the night before she went to be with the Lord, she whispered of her love for her family and her church. Mary Wynja, wife of Immanuel Church pastor Richard Wynja, spoke for many when she said, "God was glorified in Debbie's life and in her death."
