Lendall H. Smith

On May 18, 1976, the Rev. Lendall H. Smith, secretary of the Orthodox Presbyterian Church's Taiwan Mission, sent the mission's greetings to the 43rd General Assembly scheduled to meet in Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania. Mr. Smith wrote:

We know that when the Church meets as a General Assembly it is a joyful, solemn occasion. There is the joy of renewed fellowship and being united in worship and service to our heavenly Father. There is also the solemn responsibility for the Assembly to be faithful in doing the will of Him who is the Head of the Church, even Jesus Christ, our risen Lord and Savior. Therefore, we shall be united with you in upholding you before the throne of grace praying that the Spirit of God will be upon you in all of your sessions bringing blessing upon the future ministry of the Church. We also want to remind you that we need you to remember us, who are laboring in a foreign culture. We desire to see greater progress in the growth of God’s kingdom, but the forces of darkness are great. Yet, the weapons of our warfare are divinely powerful for the destruction of these fortresses. As you gather for worship, will you join in prayer for us that we may fulfill the ministry to which God has given to us through you.

Mr. Smith would labor in Taiwan until 1991. The same year he accepted a call as pastor at Bethel Presbyterian Church in Wheaton, Illinois, where he served until his retirement in 2007. In retirement, he has remained active in the life of the church serving on both the Committee on Diaconal Ministries and the Committee on Ministerial Care.
