Nothing Gold Can Stay

Robert Frost (1874-1963)

Nature's first green is gold,[1]
Her hardest hue to hold.
Her early leaf's a flower;
But only so an hour.
Then leaf subsides to leaf.
So Eden sank to grief,
So dawn goes down to day.
Nothing gold can stay.

Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth,
where moth and rust destroy
and where thieves break in and steal;
but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven,
where neither moth nor rust destroys
and where thieves do not break in and steal.
For where your treasure is,
there your heart will be also.

Matthew 6:19-21

Endnote

[1] The little gold tufts on maple tree flowers are gold at first in spring for a very brief time.
