Home Missions Today

January 25, 2006

This is Richard Gerber reporting the January 25, 2006 edition of Home Missions Today. God is using your prayers to develop the ministries of Orthodox Presbyterian mission works across North America.

MONROE, WASHINGTON—Give thanks for the congregation of Westminster OPC and her pastor, David Inks. They have completed their program of denominational financial assistance and are developing well. Pray that God would soon provide local elders as they look toward organization later in the year. Pray, too, that the Lord would give wisdom as they develop a vision for the future.

MIFFLINBURG, PENNSYLVANIA—We welcome the congregation of Providence Reformed Church and its organizing pastor Stephen Payson. Located in north-central Pennsylvania, the Lewisburg/Mifflinburg region is a thriving area but with relatively little evangelical witness, and virtually no Reformed witness. Pray that, with God's grace, the people of this mission work will be a powerful witness to Christ and the Reformed faith.

YARDLEY, PENNSYLVANIA—Yardley Presbyterian Church and pastor Buster McLeod give thanks for many things. The average weekly attendance has been over 30 people, and finances are stable. The meeting facility at the Yardley Community Center is located in the heart of Yardley and is visible to the community. And visitors have been coming to the church. Please pray for effective advertising to draw even more people to YPC. The congregation is thankful for its facility, but the additional room needed for Sunday school and a nursery is not available to them at the community center. Please pray that a facility with adequate space will be found. Pray, also, that every element of their corporate worship would bring the Lord glory. Pray for Pastor McLeod in his daily shepherding of the congregation, in his preaching of God's Word, and in making contacts in the community. Lastly, please pray that the session would have wisdom in its spiritual oversight and leadership of YPC.

SOUTH PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA—Welcome the Indonesian Protestant Church, a mission work meeting in South Philadelphia under the oversight of the session of Emmanuel Chapel. Pastor Chris Sambuaga worked with the Presbytery's Committee on Candidates and Credentials and was received as a minister of the OPC on November 19, 2005. Pray for Pastor Sambuaga as he ministers to the flock the Lord is gathering. And pray for the brothers and sisters in the mission work, many of whom have immigration issues and other needs, as they worship together and reach out to the large Indonesian population in Philadelphia.

GREENVILLE, SOUTH CAROLINA—The "Readiness for Ministry in the OPC" seminar, sponsored by the Committee on Home Missions, will be held on February 3-4 on the campus of Greenville Presbyterian Theological Seminary. This is the first of three to be held this year. Pray that seminarians will be encouraged to pursue ministry in the OPC as they meet with staff and other OP ministers and elders in this training and ministry skills evaluation event.

WILLOW GROVE, PENNSYLVANIA—We extend our sympathies to Ross and Nikki Graham on the death of Ross's mother on January 21st. Please remember Ross and Nikki and their family in your prayers during this time of grief.

Look for the next edition of Home Missions Today on Wednesday, February 8 or call 215/830-9424 ext. 46.
