And ye will not come to me, that ye might have life (John 5:40).
Bible Reading
John 5:24-40:Devotional
Christ says, "This is the will of him that sent me, that every one which seeth the Son, and believeth on him, may have everlasting life: and I will raise him up at the last day." Man is saved by grace! He is lost by wilfully rejecting the Saviour. No one can blame God if he is eternally lost. All must confess, that God's judgments are just and altogether righteous. Could Jerusalem blame God that it was destroyed? Did not Christ weep over it? Did He not exclaim, "O Jerusalem, Jerusalem . . . how often would I have gathered thy children together, as a hen doth gather her brood under her wings, and ye would not?" "As I live, saith the Lord God, I have no pleasure in the death of the wicked; but that the wicked turn from his way and live." The Lord is not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance. He will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth. Therefore, He commandeth "all men everywhere to repent: because he hath appointed a day, in the which he will judge the world in righteousness by that man whom he hath ordained; whereof he hath given assurance unto all men, in that he hath raised him from the dead." Are you one of those that believe in Christ unto life eternal? or are you one of those that will not come unto him, that they might have life?
Prayer
O Lord, help us to realize that we are living in the day of salvation, in the day when the gospel is proclaimed. May we give heed to that Gospel; may we take heed, lest there be in any of us an evil heart of unbelief, in departing from the living God. May we give heed to the voice of the Holy Ghost, as He speaks to us in Thy Word, saying, "Today if ye will hear his voice, harden not your hearts." Grant us ears to hear, hearts to believe, and mouths to make confession unto salvation. For Jesus' sake. Amen.
