Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me (John 14:6).
Bible Reading
John 14:1-14:Devotional
Christ is the way, the only way to God. Men think out other ways, and imagine that by them they can come to God, by the way of good works, the way of man-made piety, etc. But no matter what men do, or try to do, they cannot bridge the chasm between themselves and God. It is too broad and deep. But God prepared a way without the aid of man. He gave Christ to be a propitiation for our sins. He reconciled us unto God. Now we have "boldness to enter into the holiest by the blood of Jesus, by a new and living way, which he hath consecrated for us."
And as He is the Way, so He also is the Truth. John says, "We beheld his glory . . . .full of grace and truth." In Christ is embodied the whole truth as revealed to us in the Word of God. He is the fulfillment of the law. In him all the promises of God are yea, and in him Amen. If we continue in his Word, we shall know the truth, and the truth shall make us free.
Christ is also the Life. "In him was life." Outside of Christ death reigns. By nature we lie in the midst of death. But Christ has brought life and immortality to light. He is the resurrection and the life. And because He lives, all those that believe on him shall live also.
Prayer
O Lord, forbid that we should err from Thy precepts. Help us to walk in the way of truth. We thank Thee for that new and living way which Thou hast consecrated for us. Thou hast opened the way unto the throne of grace for us. May we then come with boldness, with a true heart, in full assurance of faith, knowing that He is faithful that promised. Thy promises are sure, and Thy truth is everlasting, even as Thou art. And whosoever puts his trust in Thee and Thy Word has everlasting life. O Thou who art the way, the truth and the life, lead us, teach us, live in us, and unto Thee be all the praise. Amen.
Scripture in Devotional: Heb. 10:19, 20; John 1:14; 2 Cor. 1:20; John 8:32; John 1:4.
