the Rev. Henry Huenemann
God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners; Christ died for us (Romans 5:8).

Romans 5:1-11:Devotional
Dear Children, I would like to talk to you. This is the time of year when we especially think of Christ's suffering and death. And today is Sunday. And on Sunday we should not work, or romp around and play the way we do on week days, but we should be more quiet, and think about how Jesus loved us. He loved us, and washed us from our sins in his own blood, that is, He died for us on the cross. You know Adam and Eve sinned when they ate of the forbidden tree in paradise. They did wrong. God had said: "The day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die." So death came upon all men, because they all sinned. But Jesus loved them still. So He came into the world to save sinners. While we were sinners, He died for us. He died, that we might live. He said: "Because I live ye shall live also." And now all that believe on him have eternal life. And again He said, "I give unto them eternal life, and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand."
And now think how rich we are. If we believe on Jesus, we are God's children and God our Father will care for us. And when Jesus comes again, as He certainly will, we shall be like him, for we shall see him as He is.
Prayer
Our Father in heaven, we thank Thee for Thy great love with which Thou hast loved us. When we were yet sinners and Thine enemies, Thou gavest Thine own Son to die for us. And through his death we have eternal life through faith in him. May we ever be thankful for so great salvation, and help us to abide in the love of God which is in Christ Jesus, our Lord. Amen.
