the Rev. Henry Huenemann
Hast thou not known? Hast thou not heard, that the everlasting God, the Lord, the Creator of the ends of the earth, fainteth not, neither is He weary? there is no searching of his understanding (Isaiah 40:28).
Bible Reading
Isaiah 40:18-31:Devotional
We have a great God. "Great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised; and his greatness is unsearchable." "Great is our Lord, and of great power: his understanding is infinite." "O the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! how unsearchable are his judgments, and his ways past finding out!"
"Though the Lord be high, yet hath he respect unto the lowly." "For thus saith the high and lofty One that inhabiteth eternity, whose name is Holy; I dwell in the high and holy place, with him also that is of a contrite and humble spirit, to revive the spirit of the humble, and to revive the heart of the contrite ones." "He giveth power to the faint; and to them that have no might he increaseth strength."
In this his loving care for his weak and needy children He does not faint, neither is weary. He has chosen his children from all eternity to be his own for ever and ever. From birth to death He watches over them and cares for them. He bears them as on eagle's wings. He preserves them from all evil. He delivers them out of their distresses. He comforts them in sorrow; He delivers their soul from death, and richly provides an entrance for them into the everlasting kingdom of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. What an everlasting comfort for all that believe!
Prayer
Our Father, from everlasting to everlasting Thou art God. We thank Thee that we know that Thou art a God that keeps covenant and mercy and truth. Great is Thy faithfulness. Help us to believe and to trust. Uphold us with Thy free Spirit, according to Thy Word. May we experience the comfort of Thy Word from day to day. Renew our strength, that as our day so may our strength be, and thus may we be more than conquerors through him that loved us and gave himself for us. In his name we pray. Amen.
