Rest in the Lord and wait patiently for him: fret not thyself because oj him who prospereth in his way, because oj the man who bringeth wicked devices to pass (Psalm 37:7).

Psalm 62:Devotional
How restless, discontented, and fretful we sometimes are! We see the prosperity of the wicked. They seem to be successful in all their undertakings. From outward appearances God's favor seems to rest upon them. And we find ourselves in trouble; our prayers do not seem to reach God; his ways we do not understand, and we do not have that peace and joy in God, that as children of God we really should experience. Why is this? Because of lack of faith; because we are not wholly resigned to God's will.
Our text says, "Rest in the Lord." The Hebrew is, Be silent to the Lord. Do not complain; do not find fault with him; but believe that his way is best; that all his paths are mercy and truth. If his help is not immediately forthcoming, wait patiently for him. "For thus saith the Lord God, the Holy One of Israel; In returnÂing and rest shall ye be saved; in quietness and in confidence shall be your strength." The psalmist says, "Truly my soul waiteth (is silent) upon God; from him cometh my salvation." And he adds: "My soul, wait thou only upon God; for my expectation is from him. He only is my rock and my salvation; he is my defence; I shall not be moved. In God is my salvation and my glory: the rock of my strength, and my refuge is in God." The prophet Jeremiah expresses similar truths, when he says, "The Lord is my portion, saith my soul; therefore will I hope in him. The Lord is good unto them that wait for him, to the soul that seeketh him. It is good that a man should both hope and quietly wait for the salvation of the Lord."
Prayer
Merciful God, our heavenly Father, When the storms of life assail us, and our inner being is shaken and upset, speak Thou peace unto our soul, so that we may rest in Thee. Grant us grace that our faith may lay hold of Thy precious promises, that they may sustain us. May thy Word ever be a light unto our path, and may we have the comfort of Thy Holy Spirit in all our sorÂrows. O God, be Thou the Rock of our strength and our Refuge, then we shall not be moved. Hear us for Thy name's sake. Amen.
Scripture in Devotional: Isa. 30:15; Ps. 62:1; 5:7; Lam. 3:24-26.
