the Rev. Henry Huenemann
But the word of the Lord endureth for ever. And this is the word which by the gospel is preached unto you (1 Peter 1:2).

1 Peter 1:13-25:Devotional
The Holy Scriptures are the Word of God. In them God speaks to sinful men. In our time many do not believe this. They do not want to be bound by any laws of God or man. They want to be free; so they reject God's Word. They will not acknowledge that man is a sinner, in need of a Saviour, as Scripture teaches. They want to be their own saviour; hence they remain bound with the chains of sin and of Satan. They will not see that the Word of God is "a lamp unto their feet, and a light unto their path." Therefore they walk in darkness, and know not whither they go. "Darkness hath blinded his eyes." "The way of peace they know not." They walk on the broad way that leads to destruction. They think themselves wise, but have become fools. He that rejects the Word of God, rejects God, and with him his soul's salvation. But we who believe will not be led astray by those who do not understand what they say, nor whereof they affirm. We will cling to the Word as "a lamp unto our feet, a light unto our path," as the bread of life, as the sword of the Spirit, as the fountain of life. We shall confess that Christ died, was buried and rose again according to the Scriptures. "The word of the Lord endureth forever."
Prayer
O God, we cannot sufficiently thank Thee for Thy Word. Without Thy Word we would be in darkness and could not know the way of salvation. But in Thy Word we see ourĀselves as lost sinners, and Jesus Christ as our only and complete Saviour. Help us to study Thy Word, and to put our whole trust in Jesus Christ our Saviour. Amen.
