I Will Sing Unto the Lord

Dr. John H. Skilton

I will sing unto the Lord, because he hath dealt bountifully with me. " - Psalm 13:6

Bible Reading

Psalm 13:

1How long wilt thou forget me, O LORD? for ever? how long wilt thou hide thy face from me?
2How long shall I take counsel in my soul, having sorrow in my heart daily? how long shall mine enemy be exalted over me?
3Consider and hear me, O LORD my God: lighten mine eyes, lest I sleep the sleep of death;
4Lest mine enemy say, I have prevailed against him; and those that trouble me rejoice when I am moved.
5But I have trusted in thy mercy; my heart shall rejoice in thy salvation.
6I will sing unto the LORD, because he hath dealt bountifully with me.

Devotional

We have come to the end of a week in which we have tasted and seen that the Lord our God is good. We may have been tried as David was; we may have had sorrow in our hearts; we may have gone through experiences that we did not desire for ourselves. But the mercy of our God has been upon us. His promises have been fulfilled in our lives.

Perhaps there are special instances of deliverance and blessing that we can include in our prayers. Perhaps there are unique occasions when the blessing of the Lord was especially marvelous. But there have been countless other blessings that the Lord has granted to us. Every moment He has sustained us; every moment He has given us His providential care; His mercies to us have been beyond our computation. The eternal God has truly been our God. The blessing of His covenant of grace has been given to us. The joy of His salvation has been ours.

Yes, with David, we will in gratitude and joy sing unto the Lord because He has dealt bountifully with us.
