February 16, 1964, was a joyous Lord's Day for the members of the Westminster Orthodox Presbyterian Church of Hamden, Connecticut. On that day, services were held in its new building at 565 Shepard Avenue. As a charter congregation of the Orthodox Presbyterian Church, the members of Westminster Church had warm memories of its relationship to Dr. J. Gresham Machen. But the church never had a building of its own in which to worship. The congregation had been gathering each Lord's Day, with Sunday school and Machen League, in the Mix District Fire Hall.
The members of the building committee under the chairmanship of Pastor William Moreau were Mr. Henry Bacon, secretary, Mr. and Mrs. Albert Squires, Mr. Edward Campbell, and Mr. Edmond Ricketts.
