April 6 Today in OPC History

On or around April 6, 1963, a high school graduation ceremony took place in Senafe, Eritrea. The lone graduate, the then sixteen-year-old John Mahaffy, cannot remember the exact date, but he does remember fondly the graduation speaker, Dr. Edward J. Young. Clarence Duff took a picture of the members of the mission and Dr. and Mrs. Lillian Young in front of the Mahaffy's home to commemorate the Youngs' visit and John's graduation. Fifty-three years later in 2016 when the picture was discovered, John, who serves as pastor of Trinity Presbyterian Church, Newberg, Oregon, was able to identify the occasion.
