Trinity OPC in Hatboro, Pa.

2021

On November 28, 1955, the Presbytery of Philadelphia organized Trinity OPC in Hatboro, Pa., as a particular church. Trinity Church began its life in 1953 as a mission work under the direction of the session of Calvary OPC in Glenside, with the support of the presbytery’s Committee on Home Missions. Worship services were first held at the Fulmor Heights Community Center and then at the Hatboro Federal Savings and Loan building. On its tenth anniversary, Trinity Church gathered for the first time at its new building at 151 W. County Line Rd., Hatboro, where it continues to worship to this day.

Over the years, Trinity has been served by the Revs. Robert Thoburn, Boyce Spooner, John Bettler, Thomas Tyson, George Cottenden, Bill Laverty, and its present pastor, Larry Westerveld. During the 1970s, John Bettler, together with Dr. Jay Adams, began a counseling ministry at Trinity that became what is now the Christian Counseling and Education Foundation. With its proximity to Westminster Theological Seminary, Trinity Church has been home to many seminary students and their families and has been instrumental in shaping dozens of pastoral interns.

Today, Trinity Church is in the middle of another building renovation and expansion project that is scheduled to be completed in February 2016. While this is going on, the life and ministries of the church continue. Trinity looks forward to its future as a gospel presence in its community, while giving thanks to God for his faithfulness over these sixty years.
