September 6 Today in OPC History

On this day in 1986, Mr. Iain Wright married Miss Louise Read. Iain and Louise first met at the St. Columba Church of Scotland in London, where Iain was serving as Assistant Pastor. Louise, seven years his junior, captured his attention and affection.

Iain was born in Edinburgh, Scotland and studied at Edinburgh University. He was ordained to the gospel ministry by the Church of Scotland in 1983. He came to the US and was received into the PCA in 1995, where he served at Second Presbyterian Church in Yazoo City, Mississippi.

In 1999 Iain was called to Covenant OPC in Orland Park, Illinois and was received into the Presbytery of the Midwest. He has ministered in Orland Park since then and has been an active member of the Presbytery. In addition to being the chairman of the Candidates and Credentials Committee for a number of years, he ably served as the Moderator of the Presbytery from 2014–2016. Iain has also been an active supporter of Middle East Reformed Fellowship, and has frequently taught at MERF-sponsored seminars for church officers and indigenous pastors. His missions involvement has also taken him to Peru.

Iain is perhaps the only minister in the OPC who has also served in the Royal Navy. Rev. Wright was also Lieutenant Commander Wright at the time of his retirement from Her Majesty’s Naval Reserves in 2012. For decades he faithfully fulfilled his required weeks of annual naval service. Not surprisingly, sailing is one of Iain’s favorite pastimes.

The Wrights have been blessed with five children, Race, Jonathan, Alastair, Rebecca, and Ruairidh.
