This is Ross Graham reporting the March 8, 2006, edition of Home Missions Today. God is using your prayers to develop the ministries of Orthodox Presbyterian mission works across North America.
HICKORY, NORTH CAROLINAPastor Cody Ray gives praise God for so many gifted and willing servants in their little flock! Please pray for great blessings to come to Sovereign Grace Reformed Presbyterian Church from several things which all begin in March. An inquirer's class will start for several regular visiting families. The Sunday evening Bible study will be transformed into a Sunday evening worship service in which Pastor Ray will begin preaching through the book of Galatians. And they will return to the study of Romans in the morning adult Sunday school class. Pray that the Lord will raise up willing and able elders and deacons, and continue preparing the congregation for organization sometime in the future. Lastly, pray that a love for Christ's glory and concern for the lost will compel each member and visitor to invite folks to come hear the gospel.
PORT ANGELES, WASHINGTONThe members of Redeeming Grace OPC in Port Angeles give heartfelt thanks to our Lord for his abundant blessings! Pastor William Renkema is grateful for the love and the harmony in the congregation. Although numerical growth is slow, the core group is growing spiritually through weekly worship services, Bible studies, and catechism classes. There is a real hunger for a deeper understanding of the Reformed faith. The church advertised widely in the beginning of this year and began an additional afternoon Bible Study for women in the community. Pray with them that they may be a living witness for their Lord on the Olympic Peninsula.
ESCONDIDO, CALIFORNIAThe month of January was rich with blessings for the congregation of Escondido OPC. At their congregational meeting, a call was extended to their organizing pastor, Zachary Keele, to be their first installed pastor. The group is excited about the process of organizing and the two elder candidates are doing a great job. Praise God that he has blessed them financially beyond any of their expectations. The Presbytery of Southern California has also approved their petition to begin the process of organization. Pray for the congregation's meeting this month to officially vote on the elder candidates, the pastor's call, and the church's bylaws.
BRIDGETON, NEW JERSEYWe welcome the congregation of New Hope OPC and their new pastor, Claude Taylor. In 1936, Calvary OPC in Bridgeton, New Jersey, was one of the original churches that helped to found the Orthodox Presbyterian Church. But in recent times the congregation dwindled to only a fourteen adults, most over the age of seventy. In a marvelous gesture of compassion, Faith OPC in nearby Pole Tavern sent twenty-one of their own families and their associate pastor, Rev. Claude Taylor, to help rebuild the ministry. Pray for this newly revitalized congregation, now know as New Hope OPC, which has been averaging 111 in worship and now offers five Sunday school classes for all ages.
CARROLLTON, GEORGIAWe welcome Westminster OPC to the family of CHMCE supported mission works. In December, veteran church planter Michael DeLozier and his family moved to Carrollton from Roseville, California. Carrollton is on the western boundary of metropolitan Atlanta. This mission work has already seen some of the difficulties of seeking to establish a new church, but it has also seen God graciously and powerfully working through his Word and Spirit. Rejoice with the people of Westminster Church that the Lord has provided an organizing pastor for them. Pray for the DeLozier family to get acclimated quickly to their new home. Pray that God would add many more families to the work and enable it to grow to maturity as a congregation.
WILLOW GROVE, PENNSYLVANIAPray for the Executive Committee of the Committee on Home Missions and Church Extension as it meets at the administrative offices on Wednesday, March 15. Ask God to provide wisdom concerning the many decisions that need to be made as the Committee faces the challenge of assisting the new mission works anticipated during 2006 and 2007.
