Monthly Theme:
The theme of the month is spiritual war. Jesus won the battle not by might but by obedience. He is the source of salvation for all who obey him. When we have stood the test, we will share Christ's glory.
Bible Reading:
1 Corinthians 10: 1–13
Bible Text:
God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear.... He will also provide a way out (1 Cor. 10:13).
Devotional:
Since we are weak, we must not underestimate the power of temptation. But since God is strong, we don't need to fall.
"God is faithful" means he can be trusted. We can trust God to provide for us in two ways. First, we will not be tempted beyond what we are able to bear. God sets limits to our troublesome times. After the cloud comes the blue sky; after tears comes a time of laughter. God even sets boundaries for the devil. The devil appears free to attack, yet he is not outside of God's control. God's faithfulness limits our trials. He holds the reins of the dragon.
Second, God provides a way out. "When you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can stand up under it." If you have ever been lost in the woods, you know what it is like to find your way out. When you are in unfamiliar buildings, you depend on exit signs to show you the way out. God also provides a "way out" in the hour of trial. He doesn't guarantee that we will not fall, but he does say we need not fall. God will show you the exit.
There is a road through the valley. There is a path over the mountain. God provides a fountain in the desert, a friend in loneliness, a support so that we remain standing before him.
