the Rev. Henry Huenemann
Justice and judgment are the habitation of thy throne: mercy and truth shall go before thy face (Psalm 89:14).
Bible Reading
Psalm 89:1-18:Devotional
The Lord is righteous, and upright are his judgments. Because justice and judgment are the habitation (or establishment) of his throne, his kingdom stands firm and endures for ever. "He is the Rock, his work is perfect: for all his ways are judgment: a God of truth and without iniquity, just and right is he."
No earthly kingdom can stand, unless it is founded on justice and judgment. All godless dictators will come to nought. Does not history teach this very plainly? When will we learn? God said of Abraham, "I know him, that he will command his children and his household after him, and they shall keep the way of the Lord, to do justice and judgment." God commanded Israel through Moses, "Judges and officers shalt thou make thee in all thy gates .... and they shall judge the people with just judgment." Of king David we read, "David reigned over all Israel; and David executed judgment and justice unto all his people." Of Solomon it is said, "Therefore made he thee king over them, to do judgment and justice." Of the coming Redeemer it was prophesied, that He would establish his kingdom "with judgment and with justice from henceforth even for ever." And through him "Zion shall be redeemed with judgment, and her converts with righteousness." "In his days Judah shall be saved, and Israel shall dwell safely: and this is his name whereby he shall be called the lord our righteousness."
Prayer
O Lord God, we thank Thee that Thou dost execute righteousness and judgment for all that are oppressed. We thank Thee, that Thou art merciful and gracious, slow to anger and plenteous in mercy. We thank Thee that in Thine infinite wisdom Thou hast found a way to forgive sins, and in doing so to execute righteousness. We thank Thee that Jesus made full satisfaction for all of our sins, and that Thou dost clothe us in his righteousness. Thus we may dwell in Thy house for ever. Father, we thank Thee. Continue to bless us for Jesus' sake. Amen.
