On March 25, 2006. a celebration was held at the Were Presbyterian Village near Oxford, Pennsylvania, for Mary Ferguson, who had turned one hundred years old the day before. Seventy years earlier in 1936, Mary and her husband William took the bold stand of becoming charter members of the Presbyterian Church of America (renamed Orthodox Presbyterian Church in 1939). Supporters of J. Gresham Machen, they had helped Pastor George Marston establish Kirkwood OPC in Kirkwood, Pennsylvania. William would serve on the session for nearly fifty years and Mary kept her membership in the OPC even after the Kirkwood Church transferred to the Presbyterian Church in America in 1990.
