On September 9, 1942, Edmund P. Clowney was ordained to the gospel ministry in the Orthodox Presbyterian Church by the Presbytery of New York and New England and installed as the pastor of Westminster OPC in Hamden, Connecticut. Clowney would serve as the pastor of Westminster Church until 1946 when he became a home missionary for the OPC in the Chicagoland area. After four years of service helping to establish Westminster OPC in Westchester, Illinois, Clowney became stated supply at Grace OPC in Westfield, New Jersey. In 1952, he accepted a position at Westminster Theological Seminary in the practical theology department. He would serve at Westminster Seminary for the next thirty-two years, the last sixteen as the first president of the institution. After his retirement in 1984, he transferred his ministerial membership to the Presbyterian Church in America as he served as Associate Pastor of Trinity PCA in Charlottesville, Virginia.
