At its January 16, 1945 meeting, the Presbytery of New Jersey empowered the clerk of presbytery to seek expense funds from the churches of the presbytery at the approximate rate of 2.5 cents per communicant member. The increase in funds available helped the presbytery that summer under the leadership of Leslie Dunn to hold the first worship services of the Gospel Pavilion on the Wildwood Boardwalk. In October of the same year, the presbytery erected a permanent "Boardwalk Gospel Committee." The work of the Gospel Pavilion, renamed the Boardwalk Chapel in 1948, continues to this day.
