July 24 Today in OPC History

John and Lorraine Kortenhoeven

On July 24, 1965, John and Lorraine Kortenhoeven, members of Calvary OPC, La Mirada, California, arrived in Korea to assist in the work of the OPC mission. They personally paid for their transportation to the field. Once on the the field, they not only paid for all their living expenses, but served in a selfless manner. They helped sort and distribute relief goods for orphans and lepers, Christmas packages for orphans, scrapbooks, pictures, etc. They also spoke at meetings of different kinds, and taught courses at Peace High School, Calvin College, Koryu Seminary, Yongdo Seminary, and Tong-Ah University. John, an engineer, helped with the mission in the construction of a future missionary residence in Seoul. He not only drew up the plans for building, but also helped oversee the grading of the land.
