August 4 Today in OPC History

Presbyterian Church of Brazil

On this date in 2008, Stated Clerk Donald J. Duff on behalf of the 75th General Assembly of the Orthodox Presbyterian Church sent an official letter to the Igreja Presbiterina do Brasil (Presbyterian Church of Brazil) inviting the church to enter into a corresponding relationship. Mr. Duff expressed the commonality that the two churches shared confessionally through the Westminster Standards and the courageous stand that the IPB had taken for historic Christianity. The IPB responded by accepting the invitation and sending the Rev. Ludgero Bonilha Morais and Mr. Solano Portela as fraternal delegates and representatives to the 78th (2011) General Assembly of the OPC. In the time since that assembly, the OPC and the IPB have strengthened their bonds even more by entering into a relationship of Ecclesiastical Fellowship.
