At 1:15 p.m on May 22, 1947, the Rev. Dr. Ned B. Stonehouse called the Fourteenth General Assembly meeting at Calvary Church, Cedar Grove, Wisconsin, to order and constituted it with prayer. One hundred and seven ministers and elders from the seven presbyteries of the OPC were present and enrolled as commissioners, including Stonehouse's fellow professors at Westminster Seminary, John Murray, R.B. Kuiper, John H. Skilton, Leslie W. Sloat, Cornelius Van Til, Edward J. Young, and Paul Woolley.
That morning prior to the constituting of the meeting, Dr. Stonehouse led a devotional service for the commissioners and preached a sermon based on Hebrews 4:16, “Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.” Following the sermon the sacrament of the Lord’s Supper was administered by Dr. Stonehouse, assisted by the Rev. Lawrence R. Eyres and the Rev. J. Lyle Shaw, and by Elders William Gaillard, Floyd C. Graf, Lewis Roberts, and Henry E. Wade.
