May 7 Today in OPC History

Jim Knox and Jenny Baumgardner came home from the mission field in Karamoja, Uganda to get married on May 7, 2011 at Second RP Church of Indianapolis. Having both grown up with pastors for fathers, Jenny in the RPCNA and Jim in the OPC, their wedding was a delightful mingling of two close Presbyterian cousins in the Lord.

The courtship started in 2009 when Miss Baumgardner went to the Karamoja Mission field as a missionary associate. She did so at the encouragement of the medical clinic administrator Kris Eldeen who assured her that serving at the Akisyon a Yesu Presbyterian Clinic would be great experience for her as a nurse. Earlier that same year Dr. Jim Knox had arrived on the field as the new leader for the clinic. Both of them had visited the Karamoja station previously, both were interested in medical missions, both of them loved the wild beauty of the Ugandan flora and fauna, both of them enjoyed making friends with the Karimojong neighbors the mission was seeking to reach for Christ.

After their marriage they returned to Uganda to serve at the clinic until November of 2015. The Lord has added three boys, Eoin, Támas, and Sachairi to their family. In mid 2019 the Knoxes returned to Uganda as missionary associates with OPC's Mbale mission team where Dr. Knox serves at the JOY Health Centre and Hospice.
