On Thursday evening, May 28, 1981, the Forty-Eighth General Assembly meeting at Geneva College in Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania, was called to order by the Rev. Thomas E. Tyson, Moderator of the Forty-Seventh General Assembly. Mr. Tyson constituted the meeting with a worship service and preached on the topic, "Beyond Systematic Theology." The Rev. Edward L. Kellogg administered the Lord's Supper. He was assisted by ruling elders Richard Barker (Westfield, NJ), Richard Hake (Burtonsville, MD), Albert Hayman, III (Wilmington, DE), Robert Kramm (Hatboro, PA), Howard Porter (Glenside, PA), and William Viss (Jenkintown, PA). Mr. Tyson announced that the offering ($421) would be for Worldwide Outreach. The Assembly recessed after the pronouncement of the benediction by Mr. Tyson.
