April 14 Today in OPC History

Alliance, Ohio

On April 14, 1973, Christ Reformed Orthodox Presbyterian Chapel in Alliance, Ohio was organized as a particular congregation of the Presbytery of Ohio with the Rev. David King installed as pastor of the group. The original membership included seventeen communicant members with their covenant children and three ruling elders, Earl Cornuet, David Imboden and Robert Nisbet.

The congregation attempted to start a mission in North Canton in 1978, but by 1980 was unable to sustain services at both Alliance and North Canton. The difficult decision was made to close services at Alliance and to continue in Canton. With funding running low, Pastor King took on part-time work in addition to his ministerial duties, but the church could not survive the transfer and loss of several key families. In 1982, Pastor King accepted a call to Westminster OPC in Hamill, South Dakota. One year later, Christ Reformed Chapel closed.
