Eleanor Meeker

Eleanor Garlick Meeker was born in Philadelphia on July 28, 1930. Growing up in East Falls, Eleanor aspired to be a dancer and took years of lessons. One of her best friends during this time was Peg Kelly, whose younger sister Grace would go on to Hollywood fame. After Eleanor graduated from Roxborough High School in 1948, she went to work for the Presbyterian Ministers’ Fund, where she met Robert Meeker. They fell in love and were married on August 9, 1952. They had one son, Robert, Jr., who died in a bicycle accident at age nine.

The Meekers were active members of Calvary OPC in Glenside for more than fifty years. For years they opened their home to lead the church youth group. She did some proof-reading of Sunday school materials for the Committee on Christian Education and of the third volume of Dr. E.J. Young’s commentary on Isaiah. She is remembered by all who knew her as one who loved her Lord Jesus and who rejoiced in the doctrines of grace that give to Him all the glory. Her humble, gentle, and godly walk with her Savior was reflected in her loving and selfless service to countless others.

On April 3, 2015, she answered her Savior’s call and went home to be with Him.
