October 6 Today in OPC History

On October 6, 1969, Beverly Orthodox Presbyterian Church in Los Angeles, California, dedicated a new two-story educational wing for church building. Twenty-two years earlier in 1948 through volunteer help, a sanctuary was built and the next year the building was dedicated. Sunday school attendance in the 1950s and 1960s averaged near 200 and morning worship between 125-150 people. Pastor Calvin Malcor described Beverly geographically during that time as the place in Los Angeles "where the fog meets the smog."

In the 1970s, Beverly Church started to experience changes as many of the covenant children married and relocated other places than Beverly. In 1983 both Beverly Christian School and a Spanish-speaking ministry led by Associate Pastor Josue Balderas was started. In 2006, after seventy years in the Orthodox Presbyterian Church, Beverly Church disbanded.
