Modern English Study Version

On May 19, 1988, the Rev. Jay E. Adams, chairman of Advisory Committee 2 at the 55th General Assembly, reported that the Advisory Committee recommended that the Committee on Christian Education (CCE) be authorized to investigate, with the cooperation of the other NAPARC churches, the possibility of the development of a modern English language version of the Westminster Standards as an aid to study. The Assembly passed the motion, and five years later, the CCE presented a Modern English Study Version of the Confession of Faith to the 60th General Assembly. After an extended debate that lasted two days, the 60th General Assembly approved publication of the MESV, but added that the statement be included on each page that the MESV did not have any constitutional authority in the Orthodox Presbyterian Church.
