Arthur Armour

2023

On May 20, 1908, longtime OPC ruling elder Mr. Arthur S. Armour was born at Conneaut Lake, Pa. Following J. Gresham Machen, Mr. Armour left the Presbyterian Church (USA) for the newly formed Presbyterian Church of America (renamed Orthodox Presbyterian Church in 1939) and served on the session of Westminster Presbyterian Church, Grove City, Pa., when it joined the new denomination on October 20,1936. When Westminster Church left to join the Bible Presbyterian Synod the next year, Mr. Armour joined Faith Church (Calvary OPC after 1966) in Harrisville, where he faithfully served for decades. He also served as a trustee of Westminster Theological Seminary from 1940 until 1969.

Mr. Armour produced personally handcrafted aluminum giftware. Many churches in the Presbytery of Ohio used communion sets crafted by Mr. Armour. He also helped produce visuals with Edmund Clowney, which were flannel-graphs of biblical scenes that were used for Sunday school instruction.
