Dan and Dale Overduin

2021

Born in Indonesia in 1942, Daniel H. Overduin lived in the Netherlands and Canada before attending the University of Western Ontario from 1959 to 1960. While earning his bachelor of arts degree from Highland College in Pasadena, California in 1963, he met Dale Elaine Duke at the Bible Presbyterian Church in Glendale. Dan studied at Faith Theological Seminary in Elkins Park, Pennsylvania, from 1963 to 1965, then married Dale on this date in 1965. They attended Trinity OPC in Hatboro, Pennsylvania while Dan earned his master of divinity from Westminster Theological Seminary. Appreciating the congregation and the OPC’s foreign mission program and solid Reformed faith, the Overduins joined Trinity OPC shortly before his 1967 graduation.

Dan was ordained by the Presbytery of Southern California on March 8, 1968 to serve as an associate pastor of the OPC in Manhattan Beach, California. In 1969 he was called as pastor of Beverly OPC in Los Angeles, where he served through 1975. For the next thirty-six years he was pastor at Faith OPC in Long Beach, California from 1975 to 2011.

Dan served his presbytery as stated clerk and assistant stated clerk as well as on their missions and diaconal committees. He also served on the board of Westminster Seminary California. Dale worked as office manager at Faith OPC in Long Beach. Since his retirement in 2011, Dan and Dale enjoy their four children and three grandchildren—all of whom live within a 100-mile radius of their Lakewood, California home.
