November 30 Today in OPC History

Dwight Poundstone

On Thursday evening of November 30, 1967, the Rev. Dwight H. Poundstone was installed as the first pastor of El Camino Orthodox Presbyterian Church of Goleta, California. Participating in the worship service were Sal Solis, moderator of the Presbytery of Southern California, Edward Kellogg, who preached the sermon, and Robert Graham and Ralph Clough who delivered the charges to the pastor and congregation respectively.

The Goleta Church, which at the time was 100 miles away from the nearest Orthodox Presbyterian Church, was organized and received by the presbytery five months earlier. On October 8, 1967 the congregation voted unanimously to call Mr. Poundstone as their pastor. The name "EI Camino" was chosen at this same congregational meeting.

Mr. Poundstone would serve as the pastor of El Camino OPC from 1967–1977.
